ULKUS

ULKUS – An interactive performance

Abstract
This performance represents a ritual, where people can come together and rid themselves of guilt they’ve accumulated over the years. They use a scapegoat (Ulkus) which takes on all of their guilt. The audience accesses the ULKUS interface via their smartphones. After they are asked to write down a wicked deed, so it can be forgiven by the Ulkus. The deeds remain anonymous. Once enough deeds have been collected, they start to appear on the screens, so that the audience can judge the severity of them. They do that by picking options displayed on the interface. They can select between 4 options to assess the severity of the deed, from “not bad at all” to “unforgivable”. Depending on how severely the deed is judged, more or fewer impulses are sent to the Ulkus, moving involuntarily.
